It was a chilly game for Senior Night. The cheerleaders were preparing for halftime for their senior night walk with their parents. Until, it all took an unexpected turn for Kaydric Tyson, our Benton Central Senior football quarterback. On Friday, October 11th he was laid flat on the field with a sudden injury. The crowd quickly went quiet as we all realized someone was hurt. All players knelt down in respect for Tyson.
The biggest anticipated question in the student section was: “What happened?” Tyson snapped the ball and then got his drop to pass, the pocket started collapsing so Tyson felt the pressure to scramble. He then hit a lineman and bounced off of him. Another player came to try to wrap him up so he sat there and tried stiff-arming him, but he finally hit the ground. As Tyson takes the fall and sits on the ground, the lineman comes and jumps on the back of his neck and starts yelling. Tyson was left there motionless. That was when he heard his teammates and coaches yell for a trainer. Tyson stated “I could barely see, I couldn’t move or talk. All that was going through my mind was “Is this for me?”,” He felt completely paralyzed. Next thing you knew coaches, trainers, teammates, and the ambulance crowded the player. Tyson stated “All I could hear was my mom and I was just like blacked out. Emotions were high.” They loaded him up on the stretcher and rushed him to the hospital.
Kaydric’s mother was very concerned with the scene. She stated, “I thought he was dead with how everyone was reacting.” It was hard to tell how serious his injuries were from the get-go. It all happened so fast for them. We are all glad that Kaydric made it out with minor injuries. For recovery, Kaydric has been resting but also moving his neck around a lot to prevent it from stiffening and taking a bunch of Tylenol and Ibuprofen.
