Ms. Herre has been a teacher at Benton Central for over 30 years! She is an English and writing teacher. Ms. Herre’s goal as a teacher is to bring the joy of learning to her students. She often mentions in her classroom how much she cares about her students and is dedicated to her career. In her words, she says “I want all of my students to know that they have a voice and a platform to be able to tell their story.”
When I asked her what her favorite part of teaching was she couldn’t come up with an answer straight on the spot, and she took the time to think about her response. “My favorite part of teaching is seeing students achieve their goals and watching as they strive to be lifelong learners. Students will read, write, speak, listen, and debate their whole lives. English and writing classes provide an outlet for students to hone these skills.”
Ms. Herre also is dedicated to the CAAP program at Benton Central and the PHOENIX Literary Arts Magazine. Ms. Herre has also been a sponsor of the CAAP program for nineteen years. If you ask many students at Benton Central Ms. Herre works great alongside the students in the school, making sure to provide a safe space for them to learn. CAAP’s motto is “Do not prepare the path for the children, prepare the children for the path.” Ms. Herre said, “CAAP’s motto explains my passion for teaching and working with young adults.”
