This December 11, 2024, John Weitlauf’s Principals of Engineering class met with our Superintendent, Dr. Annette Zupin, to record a video on why it’s Better in Benton.
From our elementary schools to our clubs and extracurriculars, Dr. Zupin has continuously showcased the distinctive qualities of Benton County schools and why we’re different from many other counties. She has been doing this through her Better in Benton series, in which she displays the opportunities & school life in the Benton Community.
“Benton Community School Corporation has so many great things happening.” Oftentimes, our community members are not fully aware of our people, programs, and initiatives,” Dr. Zupin stated in an email. “…When the entire community understands what is going on in our schools, it is easier to support and embrace what we do,”
These videos include subtitles for Spanish-speaking members of the Benton Community; but otherwise there is no team behind these videos. “I use my phone and a tripod.” I do get assistance in adding Spanish subtitles, as I want to make sure our Spanish-speaking families receive the information,” Dr. Zupin answered in an email. Despite the lack of an editing team, some students have made an effort to help her edit the videos she hopes will reach the community. “I also am optimistic that I may be receiving some assistance in editing and enhancing the videos next semester.” Mr. Weitlauf’s students are currently assisting me on a video and I hope to use their assistance in the future.”
Due to the collaboration between the Designatorium and Dr. Zupin, many students came together to showcase their classrooms to the community, showing off the bonds that pupils can create in the classroom. These videos won’t stop there though, as Dr. Zupin has much planned for the future episodes of Better in Benton and much more to showcase too.
