At Benton Central, there are many opportunities available. But, one class that stood out to me was CNA. I decided to ask a student taking the class and Mrs. Thornbrough (the teacher of the course) a few questions about the class and what a student should know if they want to join. Mrs. Thornbrough had so many good things to say about this course.
“If you are interested in becoming a CNA or a nurse after high school this course is for you! You must have a passion for taking care of patients and be willing to step out of your comfort zone. This opens up a lot of new learning experiences!” She says. “To join CNA students must have a driver’s license or reliable transportation. This course takes dedication and is for hardworking, responsible students.”
When I asked her, “What is your favorite part about teaching this course?” She said she loves being a nurse and a teacher and this combines her love for both things. She said,
“It’s a bonus to teach the next generation of young nurses the skills and confidence for the journey ahead of them.” Some benefits of taking this course are the hands-on learning aspects and at the end of the course, you are a certified CNA and have a good option for employment over the summer and making some money. I asked a student (Maci King) who is taking the class a few questions about being a CNA student and here is what she had to say,
“My favorite part of CNA is having deep connections with the residents and really getting to know them.” She also said, “ It’s really meaningful to hear their stories.” Although it keeps her busy, Maci said it is an amazing experience. When I asked her, “What would you tell a student who wants to join this class?” She said,
“If you see yourself thriving to help people then CNA would be a great choice for you.” She recommends it.
