The Benton Central girls basketball team has had a very successful season. The Lady Bison finished with a record of 17-7 and a 3-2 record in the Hoosier Conference. This placed them at a respectable third place in the conference. The Lady Bison are on a three-game win streak and look to keep that going into sectionals. This win streak included victories against Logansport, East Chicago Central, and Harrison High School. One of the Bison’s most notable victories was against the Salt Fork Storm, who were undefeated when the Bison faced them until they handed the Storm one of their two losses throughout the year.
The girls basketball team is set to play Rensselaer on Friday, February 7th, in the semifinal. The winning team will advance to the Sectional Championship to compete against the winner of North Montgomery and Western Boone. In the first round of the tournament, the Lady Bison had a bye, so this will be their first game in the Sectional. When they first played the Lady Bombers, they lost by ten, with a final score of 51-41.
We interviewed Senior Avery Hardbeck about the game. She is averaging 18 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists per game for the Lady Bison. When asked how she feels about her team’s chances of winning, she said, “I am very confident that we can pull off the win, and we have been preparing all season for this game specifically.”
