Winter Sports have officially come to a close, meaning spring sports are finally here!
Baseball
The high school boys baseball team is led by third-year head coach Jarrett Hammel. The team consists of only two seniors – Kaydric Tyson and Caden Kawlewski. It will be an interesting season with so many young players, but Benton Central baseball has been successful in the past. Last year, they finished with a 15-14 record and won their Sectional. Hopefully, the Bison can continue their success this season.
They begin their season with a home opener against South Newton at 5:00 P.M. on Monday.
Softball
The Benton Central softball team is looking to bounce back after a difficult 1-17 season a year ago. They are led by three seniors: Mariyah Rich, Hunter Biddle, and Annie Lank. With only three seniors and a few juniors, the girls will have a fairly young team. Their leaders will have to step up if they want to improve on last year’s season.
The softball team opens their season with a home game against Rossville on Monday at 5:30 P.M.
Boys Golf
The girls golf team played their season in the fall, and now it’s time for the boys. The boys team is coached by Mr. Clendenan and consists of several upperclassmen with a total of 19 golfers. Last year’s team was very talented and even had one golfer – Boston Pritchett – make it to the State Finals. I believe this year’s team can have a lot of success as well.
The boys golf team plays in the Hornet Invitational on Saturday at Rossville High School. It starts at 9:00 A.M., so be there early to cheer on the golf team in their first match of the season!
Girls Tennis
The girls tennis team is young with only one senior on the roster – Avery Hardebeck. However, their desire to compete will help them succeed.
They have a scrimmage at McCutcheon on Thursday at 4:30 P.M. Their first game is at home against Western Boone next Tuesday. Be there at 5:00 P.M. to cheer on the girls in their first official game and show up to the scrimmage if you want to see a glimpse of this team’s talent
Track and Field
Boys and girls track and field will also compete in the spring. Led by head coach Mrs. Thomas-Thompson, the teams are young and athletic. They have many Seniors this season and should have an experienced group. With so many events and athletes, track and field is always entertaining to watch.
The teams’ first meet is next Tuesday at Seeger, beginning at 4:30 P.M. Be there to support the countless players competing in track and field this season!
