Grant Weise steps up to the plate.
The Benton Central boys’ baseball team struggled at the beginning of the season, winning just one of their first seven games. But in last night’s game against North Newton, the Bison looked impressive.
On Monday, April 22, the BC Varsity baseball team traveled to North Newton to take on the Spartans. The Bison were looking to get back in the win column after four straight losses, and they did just that. Benton Central dominated the Spartans in a 6-1 road victory.
Junior Carter Fox pitched three innings for the Bison, and freshman Mason Schutter pitched four. Fox struck out three batters while Schutter added an impressive seven. They only gave up one combined run and four total hits in their dominant performances on the mound.
The batters who stood out the most were juniors Spencer Flook and Grant Weise. Flook had three plate appearances on the night and batted 1.000 with three hits, including a double. Weise was outstanding in his four plate appearances. He finished with two hits, four RBIs, and a home run. His home run was electric and was Benton Central’s first of the season.
Congratulations to the Varsity baseball team on an incredible victory against North Newton and to Grant Weise for his heroic home run!
