The Benton Central boys baseball team has seen better days. They are on a three-game losing streak and are struggling to compete.
But before their slump, the Bison played a great game against South Newton, defeating the Rebels 8-6. Sophomore Nolan Winkler shined with two hits, two RBIs, and a home run. Winkler also pitched for the Bison along with juniors Rocky Ellis and Kamron Rider. Collectively, BC finished with six hits in their stellar offensive performance against South Newton.
Then, the Bison battled a very good Crawfordsville team and simply couldn’t get their bats going. BC fell to the Athenians in a 10-0 blowout. Next up, the Bison played a two-game series against one of their best conference opponents, Twin Lakes. In both games, Benton Central failed to score, losing 16-0 in the first game and 10-0 in the second. Twin Lakes is an outstanding team. They hold a 7-1 conference record and an 11-7 overall record, so it’s understandable why the Bison struggled.
The path ahead doesn’t get any easier for BC. They will face off against a 12-5 North Montgomery team at home tonight, followed by another home game against a solid Kankakee Valley team on Saturday.
Hopefully, the Bison can get back on the scoreboard and back in the win column in the coming games.
