On Tuesday, May 15, the Benton Central softball team hosted the Covington Trojans in a non-conference game. The Lady Bison were victorious in a nail-biter, defeating the Trojans 7-6. It was a classic game that came down to the last inning. After allowing three runs in the sixth inning, BC shut out the Trojans in the seventh to secure the win.
Several Lady Bison players batted well. Sophomore Madison Minniear led the team with two hits and two RBIs. Senior Hunter Biddle also finished with two RBIs. The other players with hits for the Lady Bison were Junior Izzy Adams, Sophomore Reagan Dowell, and Freshman Chloe Linder. All of them finished with an RBI as well.
Dowell also pitched the entire game for BC. She gave up 11 hits, but threw six strikeouts to fend off the Trojans.
The Lady Bison were on a seven-game losing streak before their matchup against Covington. This victory was their sixth of the season and a morale booster for the players. Losing can take a toll on athletes, so it’s great to see the Lady Bison pick up a much-needed win.
