This year’s girls’ basketball team has no seniors on it. Like the women’s wrestling team last year, the juniors have to step up and take on a leading role a year sooner. Junior Azlee Reynolds says when asked how she feels about having to fill the role the seniors would, she says, “Since there are no seniors on the team this year, we’ve all had the opportunity to step up and take on leadership roles that might not have been available otherwise. Some of our main expectations for the team include maintaining positive attitudes, improving communication both on and off the court, and embracing leadership responsibilities that may be new to us. Developing these skills will help us work together and reach our full potential as a team.”
Even though there is a younger team this year, with almost half of them being freshmen, the bar is still set high. The freshmen who are stepping up have all already been involved and helping with the high school practices. It will be interesting to see the team perform this year, with such a new team, no one will know what to expect. Reynolds says, “I’m looking forward to a great and memorable season with a group of talented and dedicated teammates.”
