The Benton Central boys basketball team holds a record of 9-13 on the year with a conference record of 2-3. The Bison have had some tough competition this year facing teams such as Harrison, Lafayette Jeff, and West Lafayette, all on the road. They struggled early in the year playing those tough opponents. Then after a road win against Seeger, they found their groove winning the next 4 games. The Bison hope to use the momentum from that 4 game-win streak to win their Sectional.
The boys received their Sectional draw on Sunday, February 23rd. Benton Central drew a bye, meaning they will automatically advance to the second round of Sectionals. They will then face the winner of Seeger vs. North Montgomery, two teams that BC defeated earlier this season. The only team that has defeated the Bison in their Sectional, is Delphi. They have yet to face Western Boone, but they hold a record of 8-14, which is worse than the Bison’s. The Bison have shown that they can defeat any of these teams, and have a good chance of winning the Sectional Championship.
We interviewed Junior Andrew Plassard and asked how he felt about the sectional draw. He said, “I feel pretty confident. We have beaten both of the teams before and I feel like we have a pretty good chance of winning this Sectional”. We also asked him about beating Seeger and North Montgomery as well as the game plan heading into Sectionals. Andrew said, “ We were up by 20 on Seeger and held the lead to beat them. For the North Montgomery game, we locked up their star player and forced them to go to other players resulting in a win. The game plan going forward is trusting our defense and giving the ball to star player Hunter Sisson as much as we can because nobody can guard him.”
