The Benton Central High School boys’ baseball team has come out of the gate with a strong, competitive start to the 2026 season, showing early signs of both offensive production and balanced pitching.
After opening the year with a full slate of early-April games, the Bison quickly found their rhythm. One of the most notable early results came in a dramatic 9-8 victory over Covington on April 9, a game that highlighted the team’s ability to execute in tight, high-pressure situations.
Through their first stretch of games, Benton Central has compiled a 3-2 overall record, including a 1-1 mark in conference play, placing them near the top of the Hoosier Conference standings early in the season. This fast start has positioned the Bison as an early contender as they move deeper into April.
Offensively, several players have stepped up to lead the charge. Sophomore Lucas Snyder has been a standout, batting .500 with a .600 on-base percentage while also contributing on the basepaths. Junior Nolan Winkler has provided power and run production, leading the team in both hits and RBIs while also recording the team’s lone home run so far. Freshman Parker Sexton has made an immediate impact as well, hitting .400 and posting a perfect 0.00 ERA on the mound in early appearances.
The Bison have also received key contributions from upperclassmen like Spencer Flook and Grant Weise, who have helped drive in runs and maintain steady production in the middle of the lineup. On the mound, the team has benefited from strong early pitching performances, with multiple players posting low earned run averages to keep games within reach.
With a packed schedule ahead—including conference matchups and road tests—the early portion of the season has given Benton Central momentum and confidence. If their balanced mix of hitting and pitching continues, the Bison look poised to build on their 3-2 start and remain a factor in the conference race.
Overall, the opening weeks of the season have shown a Benton Central team capable of competing in close games, producing offensively, and relying on a mix of experienced leaders and emerging young talent.
